Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

First Call

The Radio 1 logo had a high profile in Ibiza last month, including the unplanned high spots reported in the tabloids of DJ Lisa I'Anson (right) going loco and Zoe Ball in a bikini. Will the tabloids follow to their next, rather more salubrious location? Newcastle is hosting the Radio 1 Essential Mix Party in October, supported by local club night Shindig and club magazine, Mixmag. The all-nighter even will feature Pete Tong along with Judge Jules, Danny Rampling and DJ Sonique, with Tall Paul and Seb Fontaine spinning back to back for the last two hours.

Telewest Arena, Newcastle, 24 Oct. Tickets on sale now at pounds 25. Credit- card booking/information: 0191-401 8000

Continuining Mark Rylance's revival of lesser-known plays from the Elizabethan and Jacobean era is A Mad World, My Masters, an early Thomas Middleton work which has not been performed professionally since the 17th century. A satire of London society, it exposes both the failure of Sir Bounteous Progress to live up to his name when robbed blind by his grandson and the secrets kept by Mistress Harebrain's from her husband, Dick Follywit. Good fun.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, New Globe Walk, Southwark, London SE1 (0171- 401 9919) pounds 5-pounds 20, to 19 Sept
