Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

First Call

AT THIS YEAR'S Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Sarah Kane's Crave got the thumbs-up from the same critics who had damned her previous outings. Not surprisingly, Crave marks a departure in style for Kane (right) - subtle character development replacing her usual stock of shock tactics. Crave looks at an older man's obsession with a young woman who was abused as a child and an older woman's desire for a younger man to father her child. The provocative material remains.

Last Call

LAID-BACK rappers Cypress Hill will be playing a couple of gigs in September. Cypress Hill's blend of funk grooves and fast talking has much in common with other crossover acts such as De La Soul and the Beastie Boys, and their hip hop celebrates smoking cannabis more than smoking guns. The crew have been involved with remixing most of the top names in hip hop and are currently working on their fourth album, which should be released by the end of the year.
