Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

KULA SHAKER burst onto the music scene in May 1995. Their mix of angelic vocals and wailing guitars conjured up images of late-1960s psychedelia, but despite their well- received debut album, the band - Crispian Mills (right), Paul Winterhart, Jay Darlington and Alonza Bevan - have since been surprisingly quiet. However, that is about to change as they have a new album due for UK release in March and are planning an extensive tour.

PETER HALL'S season at the Piccadilly Theatre comes to an end with Kafka's Dick. Alan Bennett's 1986 farce starts with Kafka's editor deciding to ignore the depressive Czech playwright's wishes that his manuscripts be burnt. In keeping with the spirit of Kafkaesque surrealism, the playwright comes back to life as a tortoise in a house filled with his works, which is inhabited by a senile old man, a dejected housewife and an earnest fan. With John Gordon Sinclair, Julia McKenzie and Eric Sykes.
Piccadilly Theatre, Denman Street, London W1 (0171-369 1734) to 26 Feb
