Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

FOLLOWING THE release of an eclectic mix of B-sides and rarities on their album Out Spaced, the idiosyncratic band Super Furry Animals (right) have announced dates for their forthcoming tour. The group weave their way around the country with energetic tunes such as "Something 4 the Weekend" and "Demons", as well as some new offerings. The success of their many mini- festival gigs last summer suggests that a sell-out tour is in the offing.
Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, 28 Apr; Apollo Theatre, Manchester, 29 Apr; Barrowlands, Glasgow, 30 Apr; Corn Exchange, Cambridge, 2 May. Tickets: 0115-912 9158

THE BARBERS OF SURREAL can only be described as a play which celebrates the weird and wonderful, and stretches the bounds of the imagination towards the incomprehensible. Fantastically ridiculous, the play returns to the Lyric Studio in Hammersmith for a brief run. Forkbeard Fantasy's creations, which include a chain-smoking, ex-lab rabbit and an egg shampoo which got out on the wrong side of bed, are bound to attract an intrigued audience.
Lyric Theatre Studio, London W6 (0181-741 2311) to 6 Mar
