From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Not surprisingly, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and its trio of stars topped the MTV's 2010 Movie Awards with eight nominations. The epic Avatar and comedy The Hangover came in second place with six nods each.

The vampire sequel made the Best Movie list, Best Actress (Kristen Stewart), Actor (Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner), Best Kiss, and the new category Global Superstar, which all three stars are up for against nominees Johnny Depp and Daniel Radcliffe.

Young Hollywood shows up for MTV's irreverent Movie Awards, which recognizes popular movies that don't get recognized at the Oscars and Golden Globes.

Blockbuster Avatar was nominated for Best Kiss, Fight, Villain, and Badass. The comedy The Hangover received nods for Best Villain, Comedic Performance, and Breakout Star (Zach Galifianakis).

Other nominations included Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side and The Proposal, Beyonce vs. Ali Larter in Obsessed for Best Fight, and the phenomenon Paranormal Activity in the new horror category.

For the popular Best Kiss award, Stewart scored for New Moon and competes against herself for her kiss in The Runaways with Dakota Fanning. Lautner and former girlfriend, singer Taylor Swift, are also up for their kiss in Valentine's Day.

Among the interesting choices, Betty White, the 88-year-old acting veteran of 1990' sitcom Golden Girls, was nominated in the new category, Best WTF Moment for the comedy The Proposal.

The Golden Popcorn Statues will be presented June 6 in Los Angeles, telecast live at 9 pm EST with host actor/comedian Aziz Ansari. Nominees were selected by fans who voted online at www.MovieAwards.MTV.com. Voting is open until June 5 and the Best Movie category remains open until showtime:
