This holiday season's anticipated sci-fi blockbuster, TRON: Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 cult classic Tron, is inspiring the launch a wide assortment of products from jewelry to apparel, featuring the film's sleek futuristic look with echoes of the glowing neon stripes and graphic design.
The film studio has teamed up with companies from Adidas to Rousseau to create sneakers and high-end high-heels. Items will be available from retailers starting in November and roling out through early 2011, with the release of the film set for December 17.
Light cycle toys, action figures, and electronic games typically licensed with high-tech action-adventure film will be popular items for fans. Many are available online at: http://www.disneystore.com/tron/mn/1000056/
In addition, performance sportswear lines are available from Hurley, Burton, Adidas and Oakley, offering items from jackets and backpacks to snowboard boots and sunglasses. Color schemes follow the film's signature black and bright blue items with glow-in-the-dark effects, or an orange color representing the evil henchman.
Various jewelry collections with necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets in disc motifs are designed by Han Cholo, TomTom and Rotenier, ranging in price $50 to $2,600. Other high-end TRON-inspired merchandise include leather motorcycle suits and a set of Hayden-Harnett leather bags.
Besides retailers from Japan and Australia to the US set to offer the TRON merchandise, a TRON pop-up will open in L.A.
TRON: Legacy stars Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges ( Crazy Heart) as a video game developer trapped inside a computer generated reality. It also stars Olivia Wilde ( House, MD) and Michael Sheen ( The Twilight Saga).
Another huge seasonal blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, which releases November 19, is also offering a line of collectibles from watches to wands, teaming up with licensees worldwide.
In contrast, this franchise is winding down a successful run with this penultimate installment, carrying on with its own theme park attraction at Universal Orlando Resort. With merchandise primarily geared toward children, there are costumes, Mattel's Wizard Chess Set, Dumbledore's Army bag by Bioworld, and LEGO's Harry Potter construction sets including Hogwarts castle, Hagrid's Hut, The Burrow and Hogwarts Express.
