Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Spike Jonze's latest short film, "I'm Here," can be streamed online as of March 19. The 30-minute film, sponsored by Absolut, is a love story about two robots who live in Los Angeles.
Jonze ( Where the Wild Things Are) premiered the film in January at the Sundance Film Festival, then screened it again at the Berlinale festival in February. I'm Here can now be viewed for free in the US at the film's website, and is "coming soon" in additional locations, according to the film website. Daily screenings in all locations are likely to be limited: Views on the US site are capped at 700 or so a day, according to the blog Slash Film.
I'm Here was produced in partnership with Absolut Vodka, which has previous collaborated with artists Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Helmut Newton."They didn't give me any requirements to make a movie that had anything to do with vodka," said Jonze. "They just wanted me to make something that was important to me, and let my imagination take me wherever I wanted...making something that affected them emotionally was the only thing that really mattered."
