Robert Pattinson got bad and good news on the same day. The Hollywood hot property found out his girlfriend Kristen Stewart had strayed before learning that the Australian futuristic Western The Rover from writer-director David Michod has been given the go-ahead. Pattinson stars along with Guy Pearce.
Another breath of fresh air
Fox 2000 is backing a sequel to the 1995 movie Waiting to Exhale, starring Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston and Loretta Devine, an adaption of a Terry McMillan novel. Michael Elliott has been hired to work on Getting to Happy. McMillan wrote the initial draft for the sequel, based on his book.
High times for a comic couple
US husband and wife comedy stars Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally sparked controversy after sparking up bongs with Alison Brie in a trailer for Somebody Up There Likes Me. The trio "took hits" from the bongs while discussing just how useless making videos to promote films is.
Still counting the cost of a tragedy
The shooting during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises left Hollywood concerned about an issue it didn't want to talk over in public. The incident, which left 12 dead and dozens injured, means people will have another reason to avoid cinemas. Insiders believe the tragedy cost the film $10m to $20m in business.
Toy story could be a masterpiece
Sony is revisiting its desire to bring Masters of the Universe, based on the 1980s Mattel toy line, to the big screen again. Some may remember the 1987 flop with Dolph Lundgren. There's a script by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch, titled "Grayskull" and Sony is talking to director Jon M Chu about unsheathing the sword.
