James D Cooper's workmanlike documentary tells the story of the posh Kit Lambert and his working-class business partner Chris Stamp (the brother of Terence Stamp). They started out wanting to make a New Wave film and ended up managing The Who.

Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are engagingly irreverent interviewees. The film is colourful and humorous in its evocation of Swinging London and celebration of Lambert's idiosyncrasies. Structurally, though, it is ponderous, with interviews and archive material combined in a routine way.
