DVD: The Princess and the Frog, For retail & rental (Walt Disney Studios)

After years of failing to compete with Dreamworks and Pixar, Disney wisely gets back to its roots with an old-fashioned hand-drawn fairy tale.

It may be set in 1920s New Orleans, rather than "Once upon a time in a far away kingdom", but it boasts a prince, a pantomime baddie, a menagerie of talking animals and characters who keep bursting into song. Despite an unwieldy rag bag of a story, it's a bright, peppy, lushly animated musical. For Disney, it's a hop in the right direction.
