Best known as Moss from The IT Crowd, Richard Ayoade makes a splendid directorial debut with this coming-of-age comedy, which falls somewhere between The In-Betweeners and Wes Anderson.

The self-deluding hero (Craig Roberts) is a 15-year-old who counterpoints his blundering seduction of the school pyromaniac (Yasmin Paige) with his own vainglorious voiceover and Billy Liar-ish fantasies.
