This Star Trek prequel, directed by J J Abrams (Lost, Alias), has a host of young actors filling in for Shatner, Nimoy, et al.

Their all-action escapade barrels along with such bravado and warp-speed pacing that you barely have time to notice how perforated the plot is, but it’s ultimately lacking the “trek” half of the concept. The TV series was borne aloft by the wonder of exploration, and grounded by its moral implications. The film’s more concerned with ray guns and explosions.
