When a dotty archaeologist (Felix Aylmer) and his son John (Peter Cushing) unearth an Egyptian tomb, they invoke a dreadful curse. They were warned, frankly, by an angry chap in a fez. The Hammer Horror studio excelled at making compelling films from a minuscule budget and this clearly studio-bound production has no right to succeed. That it partly does is down to some committed acting, a fearsome energy and an unhinged script.
