Zack Snyder has revealed details of his plans for the cancelled Justice League sequels.

The filmmaker originally developed 2017’s Justice League for Warner Bros, but exited the film partway through production.

After an lengthy fan campaign, HBO Max commissioned Snyder to re-edit the film into a four-hour “Snyder Cut”, featuring new footage. The result, entitled Zack Snyder’s Justice League, was released earlier this week.

In an interview with Vanity Fair following the film’s release, Snyder opened up about his plans for the planned Justice League sequels, completing a prospective five-movie “trilogy” that never came to pass.

The first two films in the saga were Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, with Zack Snyder’s Justice League serving as the third of five instalments.

Though it is assumed that the last two films will never be made, Snyder said: “I didn’t think I’d be here talking about [a restored] Justice League, so never say never.”

In the interview, Snyder revealed that Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman (Ben Affleck), would be killed off in a future film.

“[DC Comics artist] Jim Lee had done some drawings for me of the entire thing, the entire pantheon all the way to the new Batman after Batman dies,” said Snyder, adding: “Well, this is a spoiler.”

Additionally, Snyder said that he planned for Lois Lane and Superman’s son to inherit the Batman mantle after Bruce Wayne’s death.

“It was going to be Lois and Superman’s son,” the filmmaker said. “He doesn’t have any powers, and then he was going to end up being the new Batman.”

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it is discreetly suggested that Lois Lane is pregnant, with one scene featuring a pregnancy test in Lois’s drawer, and another showing her holding what appears to be a baby’s crib. Snyder has confirmed the character is indeed pregnant in the film, and claimed the twist was rejected by Warner Bros executives back in 2017.

“That was always my hope, but they made me not do it, originally. But I got it in,” he said.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League can be watched in the UK on Sky and Now.
