From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Anyone who's seen Lynne Ramsay's We Need to Talk About Kevin knows the director's a master of tension.
A quality she brings once more to You Were Never Really Here, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as a tormented enforcer on a rescue mission to save a missing teenage girl. The official synopsis adds, "Corrupt power and vengeance unleash a storm of violence that may lead his awakening."
Based on the book by Jonathan Ames, the film premiered to critical adulation at last year's Cannes Film Festival, where Lynne Ramsay won Best Screenplay and Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor.
It also boasts a soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood, and further stars Ekaterina Samsonov, Judith Roberts, John Doman, Alex Manette, Dante Pereira-Olsen, and Alessandro Nivola.
With revenge thrillers now something of a drawn-out cinematic genre (how many Takens are we on now?), it's tantalising to see such an accomplished, visionary directory like Ramsay take it all on and promise a brutally revamped take.

You Were Never Really Here hits UK cinemas 9 March.
