From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

In September last year, rumours started circulating that Taylor Swift may be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse as the mutant Dazzler - an adaptation of the comic-book starlet who has the power to convert sound vibrations into energy beams.

Over the weekend, Game of Thrones actor and new Jean Grey, Sophie Turner, added fuel to the fire by posting.

In an Instagram post, a retro looking Turner is seen looking at new Cyclops actor Tye Sheridan as he holds up a Dazzler record.

The singer, as many have pointed out, looks suspiciously like Taylor Swift, and many media outlets have questioned whether she will actually be appearing in the film.

Turner also captioned the photo “#FlashbackFriday to that time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favourite singer’s album (pre-1989, of course),” 1989 being the name of Swift’s most recent record.

However, contrary reports have appeared online, in thanks to GossipCop, who were reportedly told by Swift’s people that she will not be appearing in X-Men, rubbishing the rumours as “not true”.

It was unlikely Swift would appear in the film in person, and many fans believe Swift will still appear as the mutant singer through record covers and posters.

Meanwhile, in other X-Men: Apocalypse news, the third and final trailer for the film recently dropped online, teasing the reappearance of fan favourite Wolverine.

Director Bryan Singer has teased the character’s appearance won’t be all that it seems, previously saying “I will say, it’s not simple”. The film hits UK cinemas 18 May.
