It was previously unknown whether Hugh Jackman would return for the upcoming X-Men Apocalypse, but thanks to this new trailer, we now know he will definitely appear in the film.

The two-and-a-half minute clip, billed as the ‘Final Trailer’, features numerous reveals, including both a tease of Wolverine’s appearance and confirmation that Magneto is Quicksilver’s father.

There’s also a closer look at Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique's inner conflict (in not wanting to be an X-Men but then leading a pack of mutants) as well as further shots of Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse.

Previously, director Bryan Singer said the film would wrap up the reboot trilogy while also tying up all past X-Men films to date.

Speaking of Wolverine, rumours are swelling around who will replace Jackman as the clawed mutant, with many pointing to the comic book character X-23 taking over. In the source material, X-23 is a female clone of Logan who eventually takes over the Wolverine name when he dies.

Whether this story arc will play out is currently unknown as few details are known about Wolverine 3. For the meantime, X-Men Apocalypse hits UK cinemas 18 May.
