From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Jennifer Lawrence has always been quite vocal about her plans when it comes to the X-Men franchise.

The actor joined the series in 2011's X-Men: First Class, starring as a younger incarnation of Mystique (originally played by Rebecca Romijn) and has returned for the two subsequent outings, Days of Future Past (2014) and newly-released Apocalypse.

With her three-picture deal now at its expiry, fans are wondering whether she and fellow actors Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and James McAvoy (Professor X) will return for more.

Speaking to EW, the Oscar-winner said: “Fassbender and McAvoy and I were all talking. Like, ‘Will you come back?’ ‘I dunno.’ ‘I’ll come back, if you come back.’

"Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are.”

Lawrence, who will next star in Morten Tyldum's Passengers alongside Chris Pratt, went on to say: “I would love to come back. I love the fans and I love the character."

"But then you realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year is. I don’t know. I shouldn’t be that honest.”

Considering she's one of Hollywood's highest paid actors, she's right to be ambivalent - even more so considering the lacklustre reception X-Men: Apocalypse has been generating.

The latest film, which introduces Oscar Isaac, Oscar Isaac and Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner to the ensemble, is released in cinemas today.

Here is our analysis of the mysterious post-credits scene; steer clear if you're attempting to avoid spoilers.
