From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Really, how did it take them this long?

Patty Jenkins has finally closed a deal on directing Wonder Woman 2, Variety has reported; while the exact number is yet to be confirmed, it looks as if Jenkins' fee to write, direct, and produce is somewhere around the $8 million range - that would make her the highest paid female director of all time.

For good reason: Jenkins helped lift Warner Bros. and DC out of the critical pit with her film, which also translated into a megahit for the studio, grossing $409 million at the US box office and $813 million worldwide.

That makes it the highest-grossing DCEU film in the US to date, surpassing the likes of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, who both enjoyed strong openings but severe drop-offs in the following weeks.

Its success has had ripple effects elsewhere in the DCEU; Gal Gadot's character appears to have been given more extensive screen time through the Justice League reshoots, while there are even reports she'll appear in The Flash solo film.

Wonder Woman 2 will hit cinemas 13 December 2019.
