Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In the wake of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, the Producer's Guild of America (PGA) has announced their new anti-sexual harassment guidelines.

These have since been made public and include recommendations on how producers should act as well as requirements for training cast and crew. You can read the full document here.

"For the past three months, the PGA's Anti-Sexual Harassment Task Force has been working diligently on a set of concrete and pragmatic recommendations for producers and team members to recognise and combat sexual harassment both on and off the set,” reads a statement from the PGA.

"We're proud to announce that the Task Force has finished the first stage of its work, resulting in the PGA Anti-Sexual Harassment Guidelines.” You can read the guidelines here.

Perhaps fittingly, the first movie that will officially adopt the PGA guidelines will be Wonder Woman 2, starring Gal Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins.

“The guidelines are likely to change as our industry explores new approaches to this problem and as new resources become available,” the statement continues.

“But for the multitude of producers urgently seeking guidance on how to proceed with their work while holding a firm line against harassment, we believe this document will prove invaluable.”

Various producers — most infamously Harvey Weinstein — have been accused of numerous sexual assault allegations over the past few months. Women and men in Hollywood have banded together to stand against those perpetrating such behaviour under the #MeToo and Time’s Up banners.

The Time’s Up legal defence fund was set up by women in the entertainment industry to provide support to victims of sexual harassment at work and has raised more than $16m (£12m) so far.
