Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins tears into Justice League: ‘It contradicted my movie’

The first Wonder Woman film was released in June 2017, with Zack Snyder’s maligned DC superhero mashup Justice League following four months later.
In a new interview, Jenkins says that all of the directors of other standalone DC films “tossed [the film] out just as much as the fans did”.
“I felt that that version contradicted my first movie in many ways, and this current movie [Wonder Woman 1984], which I was already in production on,” Jenkins told Cinema Blend.
Jenkins added that Snyder informed her of certain details regarding the character’s appearance so that she could help maintain a continuity between the films.
“I knew where she sort of ends up,” she said, adding: “So I always tried… like, I didn’t change her suit, because I never want to… I don’t want to contradict his films, you know.”
Jenkins, who described the film as an “outlier”, admitted it was “hard” to see Gal Gadot playing a different style of character to the one she had presented in the first Wonder Woman.
“They were trying to turn one thing into, kind of, another. And so then it becomes, ‘I don’t recognise half of these characters. I’m not sure what’s going on.’”
Snyder will release his recut version of Justice League in the form of a four-part series on HBO Max next year.
Meanwhile, Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in the UK on 16 December with a US release arriving the following week.
