Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Emily Diane Leatherman was taken into custody in March near the "High Fidelity" star's residence in the posh California beach community of Malibu and later charged with stalking. But the case was put on hold while she was evaluated by a court-appointed psychiatrist.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Susan Speer found Leatherman mentally competent after reviewing the psychiatrist's reports and ordered her to stand trial on Sept. 9.
Leatherman also was charged with misdemeanor counts of petty theft and disobeying a restraining order, which Cusack obtained against her last year. She had previously had been arrested outside the Beverly Hills home of actor Tom Cruise.
Leatherman has been held in custody since her arrest and faces a maximum penalty of three years in state prison if she is convicted.
Cusack, 42, is best known for a string of 1980s films including "Sixteen Candles" and "Say Anything," and for "High Fidelity" in 2000.
