From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Paramount has released the first trailer for Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, a comedy produced by and starring Tina Fey based on journalist Kim Barker’s 2011 memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Already being described as “Liz Lemin in Kabul”, it looks from the trailer to involve Fey’s trademark style of humour, but transplanted out of middle-class New York and into a war zone.
It sees her play a foreign correspondent reporting in Afghanistan and Pakistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, where she develops a weird relationship with a fellow journalist played by Martin Freeman (who for some reason isn’t the trailer much - Margot Robbie, unsurprisingly, is featured heavily).
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are directing, and the screenplay comes from Fey’s frequent collaborator Robert Carlock.
Billy Bob Thornton and Alfred Molina also star, in a film that - in the age of outrage - could prove controversial given its comedic take on serious subject matter.
Earlier in the month we got a trailer for Fey’s next film Sisters, which co-stars Amy Poehler.
