From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. We’ve known for a while now that Wes Anderson’s next film will be an animation about dogs, but today we got a formal announcement of it along with some interesting cast news (Yoko Ono!).
“I’m here today to officially announce the start of my new film which is called Isle of Dogs,” The Grand Budapest Hotel director said in a brief vlog featuring Edward Norton. “It’s an animated movie and we’re shooting it in England.”
The title is clearly a play on the Isle of Dogs in the East End of London, though it remains to be seen whether the movie is set here, or just imagines an entirely new isle populated by doggos.
Here's a very early stages clip of Norton's character Rex:
As for the cast he listed an incredible collection of actors:
Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johannson, F. Murray Abraham, Tilda Swinton, Kunichi Nomura, Harvey Keitel, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama, Koyu Rankin, Yoko Ono, Courtney B. Vance, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Bob Balaban, Liev Schreiber, Edward Norton.
Finally, Wes discussed a competition in partnership with The Film Foundation, which is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the planet’s shared movie heritage.
“We’re giving away I think some pretty nice prizes, the top one being an invitation to come visit us on our set where we’ll continue to be filming our story and even an opportunity to do a voice of, probably another dog, in the movie.”
Being in a Wes Anderson film is a “pretty nice” prize indeed, follow Crowdrise for more info on it.
