Michelle Williams has joked that she didn't understand anything about Venom despite starring in it.

The Oscar-nominated actor, who played the female lead opposite Tom Hardy in the critically-maligned film, was asked by Variety about the confirmed sequel.

In response, she quipped: “I don't even know much about Venom one.”

Williams was speaking as part of a panel alongside Julianne Moore at the Sundance Film Festival.

Venom was one of the highest-grossing films of the year, taking more than $850m at the box office worldwide.

Hardy, who played journalist Eddie Brock, will return for the next instalment that is expected to focus on the war between his symbiote alter ego, Venom, and Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kassidy as well as Riz Ahmed’s character.

Director Ruben Fleischer's next film is a sequel to his cult hit Zombieland that reunites Harrelson with original cast members Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin.

You can find the first look at the sequel, titled Zombieland: Double Tap, here.
