Under the Silver Lake - trailer

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

David Robert Mitchell broke through with thoroughly creepy horror It Follows in 2014 before going quiet.

He returns this year however with Under the Silver Lake, an entirely different proposition billed as a neo-noir crime thriller.

The first trailer dropped this morning, showing off what looks like a cross between Zodiac, Inherent Vice and something generally much lighter and more comedic.

Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough star, supported by Girls' Zosia Mamet and WestWorld's Jimmi Simpson.

The synopsis is as follows:

'Sam, an affable but aimless young man, becomes an unwitting detective who quickly finds himself in over his head as he investigates the mysterious disappearance of his beautiful neighbor, with whom he has fallen in love. As he combs through Los Angeles searching for any kind of clues he can find, he stumbles upon a larger, more sinister conspiracy than he ever imagined, involving billionaires, celebrities, urban myths, and even pop culture as we know it.'

Indie powerhouse A24 acquired rights to Under the Silver Lake, which is scheduled for release on 22 June, 2018.
