Mark Wahlberg will return having appeared in previous outing Age of Extinction, with Nickelodeon actor Isabela Moner and stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael along for the ride.
They all need to make way for Sir Anthony Hopkins who will be joining the film in an unspecified role.
The film's official Twitter account confirmed the news with a tweet welcoming the Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs actor to production.
Hopkins is no stranger to blockbusters having played Odin in Kenneth Branagh's Marvel outing Thor back in 2011 as well as its sequel The Dark World two years later.
Transformers: The Last Knight is scheduled to begin production in Detroit next month. it follows the original Transformers (2007) and sequels Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Dark of the Moon (2011) and Age of Extinction (2014).
This casting announcement is proof that, while derided by a large sector of the population, the globally successful franchise can still haul in the elite.
