Despite Danny Boyle's confirmation that production on his long-awaited sequel to 1996's Trainspotting had commenced, fans would be forgiven for worrying that some form of obstacle would keep their favourite characters from their on-screen reunion.

Well, cast aside such concerns; thanks to surfacing footage from the film's Edinburgh shoot, a first look at the sequel has been provided showing Ewen Bremner in action as the character Spud.

Filmmaker Boyle - whose most recent film was the Oscar-winning biopic, Steve Jobs - was also seen in photos taken in Edinburgh's Muirhouse shopping centre.

A journalist from The Sun caught 'Spud' on camera, posting the video on his Twitter page.

The sequel will be based on Welsh's sequel Porno which was released in 2002; the author and Carlyle - who played Begbie - recently discussed the character's influence during a talk hosted by the Edinburgh International Book Festival (EIBF) in April.

Trainspotting centered on the lives of a group of heroin addicts residing in Edinburgh during the late Eighties.

An official title or release date for the sequel has yet to be announced, but the entirety of the film's original main cast will return including Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Kelly McDonald.
