From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While some fans were sceptical about the third sequel thanks to Toy Story 3 being arguably the perfect conclusion to the trilogy, those fears have likely been squashed by the initial verdicts.
"Toy Story 4 made me cry with laughter and then just straight-up cry," writes The Independent's Clarisse Loughrey of the film on Twitter.
"There’s something so warm and comforting about getting to return to these characters, but the film belongs equally to the new cast. Forky will birth a thousand memes, he is truly the most relatable toy of all."
Other critics and social media users were equally as positive about Toy Story 4. See a selection of the tweets below.
Toy Story 4 sees Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and Jessie (Joan Cusack) face a crisis when their owner, Bonnie, returns home with a new creation, Forky – a Spork/pipe-cleaner creation who does not know the first thing about being a toy. While Bonnie's family are on a vacation, Forky becomes lost, prompting the rest of the toys to go rescue him.
Along the way, Woody and Bo Peep encounter Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves), who introduces himself as "Canada's greatest stuntman" before launching into a series of complicated posing on his motorcycle.
Toy Story 4 reaches UK cinemas on the 21 June.
