A week after it was knocked off the top spot by Brad Pitt’s Fury, the reboot of the 1980s classic animation, which stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett, took £1.43m over the weekend.
This is despite the film being described as having “the emotional resonance of an episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” by The Independent’s critic, and called a “total turtle turkey” by the Guardian.
World War Two film Fury dropped to number three in the charts following the Halloween weekend which saw low-budget horror Ouja rise to second place, taking £1.37m.
Gone Girl, starring Rosamunde Pike and Ben Affleck, based on the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn, remains in a strong position five weeks after its release, taking fifth place.
Among the new entries this week were Nightcrawler, in sixth place, and Mike Leigh’s new JMW Turner biopic, Mr Turner, starring Timothy Spall, in seventh place.
