From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tom Cruise has returned in a brand new trailer for the long-awaited Top Gun sequel that was premiered during the Super Bowl.

The sporting event in Miami, Florida also saw the premiere of new teasers for Fast & Furious 9; Marvel’s forthcoming television shows; and No Time to Die, which is expected to be the longest Bond film to date.

Joining Cruise in the new film is Ed Harris, whose high-ranking official can be seen calling lead character Maverick – now an instructor attempting to get his head around drones – a “dinosaur”.

As hoped, Cruise rocks the bomber jacket and sunglasses alongside new cast members Glen Powell (Set It Up), Lewis Pullman and Jon Hamm.

Miles Teller is also in the film playing Maverick’s new protégé and the son of Goose, who was played in the original by Anthony Edwards.

Val Kilmer also reprises his role of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.

Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Oblivion’s Joseph Kosinski, is released 17 July 2020.
