Your support makes all the difference.After months of speculation, MGM and Warner Bros have finally found their new Tomb Raider, and it is not Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander has been cast as the video-game icon, joining director Roar Uthaug who is already attached to the project.
The report details how the newly rebooted Tomb Raider will ‘tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure’, seemingly taking inspiration from the most recent Tomb Raider games which focus on a young Lara Croft finding her feet.
Previously, Ridley revealed that she has been in “conversations” about the role, saying “I'm waiting for someone to say, 'I want you, let's do it'."
The last time we saw Tomb Raider on the big screen, Angelina Jolie played the titular character, starring as Croft in both 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
Vikander was last seen in The Danish Girl alongside Eddie Redmayne, a role for which she won an Oscar. In 2016, the actor will star in Tulip Fever alongside Christopher Waltz, Matt Damon’s next Jason Bourne film, and The Light Between Oceans, alongside Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz.
Tomb Raider is set for release in 2017.
