Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The discovery that films would be a lot more entertaining if they ended as soon as their title was spoken has been usurped by a new discovery that is almost certain to change the way you view your favourite films.
Working on the hypothesis that Dire Straits' 1985 track "Walk of Life" is the perfect song to end any movie, Peter Salomone decided to put this to the test and found that, quite honestly, he was not wrong.
Whether it's in the stripping away of all eeriness from the closing moments of The Shining or somehow adding clarity to No Country for Old Men's cryptic climax, from the moment that iconic synthesizer organ patch sounds, the respective final scene can never be viewed in the same way again.
Other delights he's put together include 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jurassic Park and RoboCop - even the ending of TV show Lost gets the Knopfler do-over.
We've plucked out our eight favourites below.
1. The Truman Show
2. The 400 Blows
3. Inception
4. The Shining
5. No Country for Old Men
6. Chinatown
7. There Will Be Blood
8. Mad Max: Fury Road
You can find all the other endings Salomone's put together over at wolproject.com.
