From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Directed by Lone Scherfig (Riot Club), the film - based on Lissa Evans’ novel Their Finest Hour and a Half - has been winning rave reviews.
Above, The Independent is premiering a clip from Their Finest which see’s Catrin Cole (Arteton) meet Roger Swain (Grant) and Tom Buckley (Claflin) for the first time.
The official synopses reads:
1940, London, the Blitz; with the country’s morale at stake, Catrin (Gemma Arterton), an untried screenwriter, and a makeshift cast and crew, work under fire to make a film to lift the nation’s flagging spirits; and inspire America to join the war. Partnered with fellow writer, Buckley (Sam Claflin), the pair, along with fading matinee idol Ambrose Hilliard (Bill Nighy), reluctantly joins forces on a movie to warm the hearts of the nation and capture the imagination of the US public.
Arteton recently appeared in the post-apocalyptic The Girl With All The Gifts, her next project being the animated television series Watership Down. Sam Claflin, meanwhile, will next star in My Cousin Rachel alongside Rachel Weisz.
Their Finest reaches cinemas 21 April.
