From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference. After only a brief appearance in last year’s astronomical hit Intersteller, Matt Damon is set to boldly go where no man has gone before once again, but this time under Ridley Scott’s direction in The Martian.
While the clip shows Damon heading to Mars, the official synopsis of the movie describes how the astronaut is left stranded on the red planet after a massive storm forces the crew to leave him behind. He must then find a way to survive, in the hope that his crew will come back to rescue him.
The Martian is based on the 2011 book of the same name and was the first novel published by author Andy Weir.
Thanks to a promotional video – part of the viral campaign which has just kicked off, six months before release – we had our first look on board Ares 3, Damon’s space ship, earlier today .
The video features Mark Watney (Damon) taking a camera around the ship, introducing each crew member to the audience. Stars featured in the video include Michael Pena (American Hustle, Fury), Sebastian Stan (Captain America) and Kate Mara (House of Card).
A full character-centric poster has been released by co-producer Simon Kinberg.
The Martian will boldly go into UK cinemas 27 November 2015.
