From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The trailer will eventually get an online premiere through YouTube, but something about this initial controlled dissemination of information through an expensive tablet would surely make President Snow prune a rose and smile.
Diehard fans will need to get to San Diego's Comic-Con on 25 July or one of Samsung's Experience Shops on 26 July to watch the trailer first on the device.
"We're giving our consumers the unique experience to premiere the official trailer of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 on our new Galaxy Tab S," said Todd Pendleton, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung in the US.
"Together with Lionsgate, we will give Samsung Galaxy owners access to experience The Hunger Games franchise like never before."
The move follows a similar one with Jay Z which saw his album Magna Carta Holy Grail given away free exclusively to the first million owners of Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note II devices to claim the album though a free app from the Google Play store - a deal worth $5 million.
The Hunger Games cast will introduce the new Mockingjay - Part 1 trailer in the Capitol Gallery in San Diego's Samsung Galaxy Experience on Friday 25 July at 12pm PT.
The sequel has issued two teasers so far, a Panem address from Snow and a 'hijacked' version of it.
