From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Independent is happy to exclusively unveil the world exclusive trailer for The Final Year, a brand new documentary that transports the viewer behind-the-scenes of President Barack Obama's final year in office.

Most specifically, the film - from director Greg Barker - revolves around Obama's foreign policy team he assembled during his first presidential campaign almost a decade ago including Secretary of State John Kerry, UN Ambassador Samantha Power, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes and National Security Advisor Susan Rice.

Premiering at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the film unfolds as the 44th president was forced to deal the rise of ISIS and contend with issues related to global warming.

The film comes from the creative team behind Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man and Life Animated as well as HBO film Manhunt which focused on the search for Osama Bin Laden.

The Final Year will be released by Dogwoof in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on 19 January 2018 - the date marking one year since Donald Trump was inaugurated as America's new president. It will air in the US on HBO later in the year.
