From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Dystopian nightmares may seem a little too close to home now that they've firmly shifted from the fiction to non-fiction section, yet that won't stop Hollywood from indulging in one of its favourite genres.

The Spectacular Now's James Ponsoldt's has taken on the task of adapting Dave Eggers' 2013 novel, The Circle; with a new trailer for the film plunging straight into its dystopian world of surveillance and cult-like corporations.

Emma Watson stars as a young tech worker who's delighted to secure a job at a powerful tech company called The Circle, who initially seem to provide both useful tools for a modern world, and a spectacular environment for its employees.

She quickly rises through the ranks, only to find herself in the midst of perilous dilemma over the ethics of privacy, surveillance, and security; with her decisions having the capability to alter the entire future history of humanity.

The film also sees Tom Hanks indulge in a rare villainous role, playing the company's founder; alongside John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Patton Oswalt, and Boyhood's Ellar Coltrane.

The Circle hits cinemas 28 April 2017.
