From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Disney is clearly aware that people don’t like it when they ‘mess with the original’, so much so that the first trailer for its live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast is basically exactly the same as the one for the 1991 animation.

Depending on your cynicism levels, this is either a charming nod to the original, or a particularly brazen example of the studio forcing the same content down your throat as you reach deep in your wallet to throw money at them.

Some of the shots from the original trailer are adapted a little, as the staging/camera movement wouldn’t have made sense in live action, but the trailers sync up perfectly, both of them cutting at the exact same points. It makes sense when you think about it, the new trailer having a pace to it rarely seen anymore.

The Easter egg was spotted by MoviePilot, which sequenced them in tandem.

The Disney remake is already a record breaker, months before the film hits cinemas.

Its first full trailer set a new record as the most watched in the first 24 hours, acquiring an incredible 127.6 million views (via Variety); excluding views acquired in China. A major factor seems to have been star Emma Watson herself, who plays Belle; Disney reports the launch saw over 29 million views on Facebook alone, with 27 million of those views coming from the actress' own page.

The teaser garnered even more views than that of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the film might even top it at the box office.

Beauty and the Beast hits UK cinemas 17 March, 2017
