Since releasing Cloverfield in 2008, Matt Reeves has only gone from strength to strength, the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes being the apparent pinnacle of the director's career so far, critics having heaped praise upon the blockbuster.

Unsurprisingly, fans are over the moon about Reeves being selected to direct the upcoming solo Batman film, named The Batman, starring Ben Affleck.

Speaking to New Trailer Buzz (via Den of Geek), Reeves discussed hinted at the direction he will take the Caped Crusader.

“I think there’s a chance to do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point of view driven in a very, very powerful way that is hopefully going to connect you to what’s going inside of his head, and inside of his heart”, he told the publication.

A script for the film is currently being worked on by Reeves, but already some details have emerged. One such snippet is the possibility that Josh Gad could be playing The Penguin, a character previously played by Danny Devito in Batman Returns.

The Batman is currently expected ti reach cinemas 2019.
