Suki Waterhouse is joining the cast of Divergent sequel Insurgent, which is due to hit screens next year.

The British model and actress will be joined by US actor Jonny Weston, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

They are the latest two additions to the film, which has begun shooting in Atlanta ahead of its release on 20 March.

Insurgent is a follow-up to Summit’s adaptation of the novel by Veronica Roth, which is set in a dystopian world where people are divided into distinct groups – but Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is Divergent and doesn’t belong anywhere. When she discovers a covert plan to destroy all Divergents, she teams up with Four (Theo James) to uncover the truth.

Woodley and James are set to return for the sequel, while Waterhouse, 22, will play Marlene, a member of the Dauntless Faction who befriends Tris.

Weston’s deal is still in the final stages of negotiation.

Robert Schwentke will direct a script written by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman and most of the original cast will be returning, inclusing Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney and Zoe Kravitz, as well as Octavia Spencer, who will play Johanna.

The first film earned $264.3 million (£157.9 million) globally. It was recently revealed that the third book in Roth's triolgy, Allegiant, will be spilt into two parts.

Waterhouse is the face of Burberry and has also modelled for brands including Swatch, H&M and Marks and Spencer.

She appeared in an episode of TV series Material Girl in 2010, as well as the films Rachael and Pusher. She is currently dating Hollywood heavyweight, 39-year-old Bradley Cooper.
