From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Partners production is turning Reddit‘s viral ghost story The Spire in the Woods into a feature-length film.

Amblin has teamed up with Roy Lee (It) and Jon Berg (Justice League), who are producing through Vertigo Entertainment, after acquiring the rights to Tony Lunedi’s The Spire in the Woods, a series of Reddit posts written in 2013, that were later collected into a book.

The film will be retitled The Bells and will centre on a teenage boy searching for answers to his friend’s suicide, only to find himself drawn in by the same alluring but deadly ghost story.

Lee founded Vertigo in 2002. Alongside producing this year’s It: Chapter 2, his credits also include US remakes of The Ring, Dark Water, and The Grudge.

Spielberg is executive producing both Men in Black International and the film adaptation of Cats. He’s also directing his own updated remake of West Side Story, which is set to film his summer.
