From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mikaela Spielberg, the daughter of director Steven Spielberg, has spoken out about her work in the sex industry.

The 24-year-old, who has made a career as an adult entertainer, opened up about her profession during a candid interview with The Daily Beast.

Spielberg told the publication: “I’m really enjoying work, and it’s giving me a whole new life-affirming way to be.”

She added that for her sex work has “opened up a gateway into being able to dance”.

Spielberg has previously spoken at length about her struggles with mental health and substance abuse. In March earlier this year, it made headline news when she was arrested in Nashville and charged with assault.

In the past, the performer has also been candid about the abuse she suffered by “monsters” outside her family.

“I feel like had I not done the work I needed to do on myself, and on my relationships, I would have been dead within the year,” she said in the new interview.

Spielberg – who is a performer for ManyVids, an adult content platform – opened up about her line of work further, stating that she does not enjoy “hardcore content personally” instead preferring to engage in “soft content and passion content".

Earlier this year, Spielberg claimed that her high-profile parents were initially “intrigued” by her career choice.

She told The Sun in February: “I actually think that once they see how far I've come from the bottom I was at a year and a half ago, they're going to look at this and go, 'Wow, we actually raised are really self-assured, young lady.’”
