Danny Boyle has finally begun shooting the long-awaited Steve Jobs biopic with Michael Fassbender in the lead role as the late Apple founder.

Filming has begun in San Francisco after numerous casting disruptions delayed the project for months, according to the Guardian.

Gone Girl director David Fincher was originally on board with Leonardo DiCaprio as Jobs but after Sony passed the film on to Universal, Slumdog Millionaire’s Boyle joined and gave the main part to Fassbender.

Fincher withdrew last April after an alleged pay dispute and reported pressure from Angelina Jolie to helm Cleopatra, before DiCaprio followed him out of the door in October.

Christian Bale was lined-up to replace DiCaprio but left shortly before Sony’s controversial decision to sell the rights over "conflicting feelings".

Work is now underway at last, with Kate Winslet playing former Macintosh marketing head Joanna Hoffmann, Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley and Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) has penned the as-yet-untitled movie, which also stars Katherine Waterson, Sarah Snook, Adam Shapiro and Michael Stuhlbarg.

The storyline is being kept secret, but reports hint that it will be structured in three parts with the final scene involving the unveiling of the first iMac in 1998.

Jobs died from cancer in 2011 and has been portrayed on the big screen before, by Ashton Kutcher in 2013’s Jobs.
