A new Star Wars spin-off film about Han Solo and starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul is rumoured to be in the works.

The new film is believed to be in production under the code name “Luminac Industrial Goods”, according to a post on the Stars Wars fan site Making Star Wars.

Editor-in-Chief of Making Star Wars Jason Ward said, “I generally shy away from reporting too much on the specifics of the stand-alone spin-off Star Wars films because we hear so much stuff it can be difficult to know what to take seriously.”

"For this reason, we’re having to rely pretty much entirely on the sources that have panned out for Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

"So today’s information comes from a friend that did give us legit Star Wars: The Force Awakens set photos and more."

The new film would be the first spin-off of its kind from the franchise and as Ward pointed out, “Since there has never been a Star Wars spin-off film like what we’re about to get, there’s no good or bad track record.”

Although Paul is said to be attached to the project, it is not yet clear what role he will be playing in the film and Ward made clear in his post: "There was no direct implication he was playing Han Solo."

The role of the surly Han Solo was played by Harrison Ford in the original films and the star will be reprising his role in Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, the latest instalment of the mammoth sci-fi franchise.

Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens is in production at the moment and it is believed that filming on the new Han Solo project will overlap with the latest film.

So far plot details have remained sketchy but an 88-second teaser trailer was released online on 28 November giving a taste of what fans can expect. A second trailer is expected to be unveiled next spring.

Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens is set to reach UK cinemas on 18 December 2015.
