Upon first watch, many fans have noted that no character says “I have a bad feeling about this” throughout the entire movie.
Characters have used the phrase multiple times throughout every other instalment, including Han Solo (A New Hope, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens), Luke Skywalker (A New Hope), Princess Leia (Empire Strikes Back), C3-PO (Return of the Jedi), Obi-Wan Kenobi (The Phantom Menace, Return of the Jedi), Anakin Skywalker (Attack of the Clones), and K-2SO (Rogue One).
Turns out, someone — or something — actually said the iconic line. As confirmed by director Rian Johnson, BB-8 beeps the phrase just before Poe Dameron flies the duo into a battle against the First Order.
The voice of BB-8 was created by comedians Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz, the duo saying real phrases which are then put through a modulating synthesiser.
Speaking previously about doing the voice for The Force Awakens, Hader said the voice came about by "JJ [Abrams] f**king around with this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me.”
“It looked ridiculous but it made BB-8's voice. At first I tried doing a voice, but we all agreed it sounded too human,” he added.
The Last Jedi is in cinemas now.
