Rey's parentage remains one of the biggest secrets of the newest Skywalker trilogy, with director Rian Johnson teasing that the identity of her parents will be "addressed" in The Last Jedi.
Which makes it rather curious as to whether Adam Driver has actually slipped up and spoiled the whole thing in a recent interview with GQ, or whether this is all just one big misunderstanding.
Speaking about his character, Kylo Ren, Driver related: "I remember the initial conversations about having things 'skinned', peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo's pretending to be on the outside is not who he is."
"He's a vulnerable kid who doesn't know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he's playing a role. JJ had that idea initially and I think Rian took it to the next level."
He then stated, "You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who's hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices,"
Did Driver misspeak? Did he mean princess-in-hiding as a reference to a common character trope, meaning only the suppression of Rey's incredible abilities? Or has he accidentally revealed Rey is of royalty - a daughter to, let's say, Princess Leia, perhaps?
Considering the new trilogy is deliberately (too deliberately, according to some) mirroring past narratives, the idea of introducing a brother and sister to the story makes a lot of thematic sense, especially considering the "mysterious connection" between the characters hinted at in their official bios.
That said, the connection could be far more spiritual, or Force-related; Kylo's internal conflict, as underlined by Driver's own words, opens him up to a redemption arc - and perhaps Rey's destiny is to save him.
