Star Wars: The Force Awakens beats Jurassic World's global box office record taking $528m-plus in one weekend

Your support makes all the difference.The numbers are still being totted up regarding Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ opening weekend at the box-office, but it looks like the film may have beaten Jurassic World’s humongous global record.
According to Disney CEO Bob Iger (Via The Hollywood Reporter), the latest in the sci-fi saga has grossed at least $528 million (£355 million) globally in one weekend, beating Jurassic World’s record of $524.9 million (£352.6 million) set earlier this year.
Sunday estimates had Star Wars pegged at $517 million (£347 million), but Disney and Lucas film expect the numbers to be much higher when everything is counted.
This is particularly remarkable considering Jurassic World was also released in China during its debut weekend whereas Star Wars has yet to open over there.
Figures in the UK have been significantly huge as well, the film having made $50 million (£33.5 million) in just four days. Meanwhile, in the US, estimates are pointing towards a $238 million (£160 million) opening.
Unfortunately, while Disney may have domination of the box office, the corporation are still a long way off building a real Death Star, which would apparently cost $852,000,000,000,000,000 to make in real life.
After all the merchandise and a few more sequels, however, The Mouse won’t be too far off. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in cinemas now.
