From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Marketing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has ramped up a notch in the last month, with an exciting new trailer, an official poster and Harrison Ford dressed up as a hot dog all making headlines.

With under two months until release, Disney has released five character posters for the main cast, including Rey, Finn, Kylo Renn, Han Solo and Princess Leia.

Notably, Luke Skywalker is once again missing from the promotional material even though Mark Hamill is second highest on the bill, just below Harrison Ford.

Carrie Fisher, who plays Leia, tweeted out her poster with the caption: “Oh Luke, don’t ask for the moon, we have the force.”

So far, we’ve only seen the princess on two other occasions while promoting the seventh Star Wars film: in the second trailer she can be seen resting her head on Han Solo’s chest and on the official poster you can see her looking past Han Solo.

Daisy Ridley posted her characters image to Instagram, writing: “IT’S REY!!! Looking all freckly from the Jakku sun and as if there's an adventure to be had!!!”

Fans have began speculating that Rey may actually turn to the dark side in the film. In the official poster, her staff is in line with Kylo Renn’s red lightsaber, while in the second trailer she can be seen with glowing red eyes.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in UK cinemas 17 December, but catch it before in airlines around the world.
