From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Much of the conversation following Rogue One has surrounded the inclusion of one of A New Hope's actors using VFX.

Peter Cushing appeared in Episode IV as the villainous Grand Moff Tarkin and reprises his role in the new prequel despite dying in 1994.

Whatever your stance on his appearance (sure, it may be groundbreaking, but is it ethical?), it's worth noting Cushing's profound thoughts on death he expressed following the passing of his wife which has been published touchingly by The Hollywood Reporter.

He continued:

"I was contemplating everything. I knew I'd never have the courage to do it, but you can't have the experience and the love of a person such as Helen and then suddenly it's not there anymore. It's more than three quarters of your own self taken from you. So you either buckle under and say, 'that's it,' and give up, or you have to go on and run the race before you, which is set before you."

"I accepted it completely because I accept this might have been the end of the line," he said. "It didn't worry me at all, because I thought, 'This is lovely. It's been a long time' [since Helen died]. "I shall be with Helen at last. Her promise will have come true, but it always worries me for those left behind. They are the people who really suffer

"Yes. Helen will be there. That's enough for me. I reckon it's the places you love yourself. That will be yours."

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story IMAX Featurette

Gareth Edward's' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has set the box office alight following its release earlier this month. The ensemble cast is headed up by Felicity Jones whose character Jyn Erso may (somehow) appear in a future Star Wars prequel.
